RESOLVED: That MSMS support nutrition education, including how to read and interpret nutrition labels on food packaging, be implemented in elementary school curricula in Michigan as a prevention measure for obesity and resulting morbidity. RATIONALE: The Committee heard testimony and considered information concerning Michigan’s school requirements for health and nutrition education. The Committee agreed with the resolution but also wanted to include interpretation as a component. With the amendment, the Committee feels that this will provide comprehensive life and wellness skills that children need to be successful in making healthy choices and to understand nutrition.
