Resolved Section(s):
RESOLVED: That MSMS seek legislation that requires clear nutrition information be provided for items sold in restaurants in Michigan.RATIONALE: The Health Care Reform Act mandates restaurants with 20 locations or more (and vending machines) to post calorie counts alongside the menu item on paper menus, menu boards, and at drive-through windows. The Food and Drug Administration has until March 2011 to implement the new law. To address restaurants with under 20 locations, the Committee approved this resolution with some minor edits including omitting the clause, “upon request.”
