Resolved Section(s):
RESOLVED: That MSMS form a task force to examine nurse-staffing issues in hospital and their effect on patient safety. RATIONALE: The Committee believed that the issue of nurse staffing is a key component of the quality and safety of services delivered to patients. Furthermore, the Committee agreed that physicians have a crucial role to play in the quality and safety of patient care. However, with respect to this issue, the Committee found that there are many variables that make comparisons very difficult to draw any sort of meaningful conclusion. Furthermore, the Committee believed that there are several organizations that already are working on many of these patient safety issues that may be better equipped to address the issue of nurse staffing and the corresponding impact on patient safety.
