RESOLVED: That MSMS support a reporting mechanism for motor vehicle safety-related issues similar to Food and Drug Administration Form 3500; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to support a reporting mechanism for motor vehicle safety-related issues similar to Food and Drug Administration Form 3500; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to seek rules similar to the Food and Drug Administration rule that would have the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Department of Transportation develop a form similar to the Food and Drug Administration Form 3500 for reporting motor vehicle safety defects, and be it furtherRESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to seek rules from the Department of Transportation and/or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that would require motor vehicle manufactures and/or their suppliers to report all safety related complaints.RATIONALE: Currently, automotive manufacturers are already legally required to report vehicle defects to the federal government. Additionally, the public has the ability to report safety concerns through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (HTSA) website. Since the intent of this resolution already exists, the Committee recommended no action.
