RESOLVED: That MSMS continue to support the AMA’s efforts to reduce health care fraud, and specifically suggest the development of a means for physicians to query federal databases to review what is being billed against their National Provider Identification or Unique Physician Identification Numbers, including establishment of methods to report known or suspected misuse of these identifiers; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That MSMS propose to the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) and/or the state legislature that the Michigan Automated Prescription System program be modified to allow physicians to screen prescriptions that are written using their Drug Enforcement Administration numbers including establishment of methods to report known or suspected misuse.RATIONALE: The Committee determined that the third resolved should be removed because it reaffirms existing AMA policy.
