RESOLVED: That MSMS support the passage of legislation in Michigan that would allow physicians to apologize and express sympathy for errors and adverse events without having such apology used against them in a malpractice suit or as evidence of liability in unexpected adverse events.RATIONALE: The Committee believed that this resolution is consistent with similar MSMS policies that could help to limit physician exposure to liability. The resolution was modified slightly to clarify the intent to seek this legislation.
