RESOLVED: That MSMS strongly oppose the legalization of marijuana; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That MSMS oppose any ballot issue to legalize marijuana in Michigan.RATIONALE: The Committee amended the resolution by deleting the third resolved. The third resolved directed MSMS to partner with coalitions and community organizations. The Committee concluded that this was unnecessary to stipulate. Decisions related to advocacy against this potential ballot proposal could entail financial commitments or other considerations not considered by this resolution so it was stricken. It was the opinion of the Committee that the remaining resolved portions provide a clear position for MSMS to oppose the legalization of marijuana as well as any ballot proposal to legalize marijuana in Michigan. The Committee believed that the longstanding position of MSMS and the AMA against the use of marijuana is still the appropriate policy.
