RESOLVED: That MSMS advocate that the Michigan Legislature commission an up-to-date study to determine the actual costs of medical care for motorcyclists not wearing helmets, as compared to those who wear helmets, and the number and/or percentage of motorcyclists not wearing helmets who are insured in compliance with Public Act 98 of 2012; and be it further RESOLVED: That MSMS advocate that the Michigan Legislature appoint a task force to assess the need toraise the health insurance requirements under Public Act 98 of 2012 for motorcyclists not wearing helmets based on their actual costs of medical care in comparison to motorcyclists wearing helmetsand impose sufficient fines on under- and un-insured motorcyclists in order to ensure that Michigan taxpayers aren't shouldering an undue burden.
