On behalf of: St. Clair County Delegation

Committee: C (Internal Affairs and Public Service) [Pre-2014]

Resolved Section(s):
RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to explore the possibility of increasing the term limit of the AMA president to two years so that the president will be familiar with the continuing issues and negotiations to keep the continuity of the political process.RATIONALE: The Committee heard testimony from MSMS and AMA delegates that to become AMA president, the physician typically holds an AMA office prior to becoming elected. The presidency is currently a three-year process (president-elect, president, and immediate past president). There is a significant financial impact on the physician, their practice, and family during the presidential years, and extending that an additional year would be extremely burdensome to the physician.
