RESOLVED: That MSMS thoroughly encourage women to breast feed; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That MSMS ask health systems to increase support of lactation educators; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That MSMS encourage health plans to pay for appropriate lactation educators and support systems; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That MSMS encourage other organizations to support the American Academy of Pediatric Policy Statement, “Breast feeding and the Use of Human Milk” 2005:115.REFERENCE COMMITTEE RATIONALE: The Committee heard extensive testimony in favor of encouraging mothers and increasing the rate of breast feeding, and amended the resolution to encourage rather than require health plans to pay for lactation educators, and to support a specific existing policy statement that also urges employers to accommodate nursing mothers.
