On behalf of:

Committee: B (Legislation)

Resolved Section(s):
RESOLVED: That MSMS urge Governor Granholm and the Michigan legislature to directly address the inequities of the payment schedule for orthopedic practices, and come up with creative incentives such as a fee schedule designed to cover overhead cost coupled with state tax breaks, or other incentives, and make a serious, concentrated effort at resolving the crisis that has developed.RATIONALE: This resolution asks that relief be specifically targeted toward orthopedic surgeons in order to address a lack of access for Medicaid beneficiaries. It was the sense of the Committee that the availability of orthopedic surgeons to patients covered by the Medicaid program is a legitimate concern. However, existing MSMS policy has always focused on the importance of fixing the entire Medicaid system. The Committee did not believe it was wise to address the inequity of Medicaid funding on a specialty by specialty basis.
