RESOLVED: That MSMS work with the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan legislators to make HIV testing conform to the Center for Disease Control recommendation, i.e. 332.5133 of Act 368 of 1978 as amended by Act 488 of 1988, Act 200 of 1994 and Act 420 of 1994, and be it further RESOLVED: That physicians continue to educate patients about HIV prevention and the value of HIV testing. REFERENCE COMMITTEE RATIONALE: The Committee agreed with overwhelming testimony that diagnostic HIV testing and opt out screening be a part of routine clinical care and consent for HIV testing should be incorporated into a patient’s general informed consent for medical care on the same basis as are other screening or diagnostic tests.
