RESOLVED: That MSMS ask the Food and Drug Administration to mandate steps to assure the safety of herbal medicines and dietary supplements including medicines with Asian patents; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to ask the Food and Drug Administration to mandate steps to assure the safety of herbal medicines and dietary supplements including medicines with Asian patents; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to recommend to the Food and Drug Administration that scientific research and clinical trials be required prior to the introduction of herbal medicines or dietary supplements including medicines with Asian patents in the United States to ensure the safety of the public health; and be it further RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to ask the Food and Drug Administration to mandate that all of the ingredients be displayed on the containers of all herbal and dietary supplements, in the English language, as required for allopathic medications.RATIONALE: The Committee appreciated and agreed with the testimony of the author. However, the Committee believed the intent of this resolution can be found in existing AMA policy (H-150.954) and recommends no action.
