Resolved Section(s):
RESOLVED: That MSMS work with the Michigan Osteopathic Association and the Michigan Department of Community Health including the Board of Medicine and the Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery to explore making standards for full medical licensure more similar for both MDs and DOs.RATIONALE: The Committee heard testimony regarding the licensure requirements for DOs and MDs. Currently, DOs are eligible for a full unrestricted license after one year of residency; MDs are eligible after two years. Extensive testimony was heard in favor of the equivalency in licensure requirements. The resolution was amended to “explore” rather than “impose” equivalent standards.
