RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA request that our AMA define the central and leading role of physicians in the formulation of Accountable Care Organizations; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA request that our AMA makes it a priority to give physicians the rights to negotiate as part of ACOs and immunity from antitrust or fraud rules.RATIONALE: The Committee learned that the AMA has already adopted Accountable Care Organization Principles (H-160.915) which address areas such as ACO governance, physician participation, antitrust laws, resources, etc. Additionally, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released its proposed rules for ACOs under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act’s Medicare Shared Savings Program. Therefore, MSMS, the AMA, and other medical professional organizations are currently working on comments to the proposed rules.
