RESOLVED: That MSMS adopt the policy that substance use disorders should beincluded as part of the ongoing legislative effort to achieve mental health parity.RATIONALE: This resolution was substituted at the request of the author and additional revisions to the resolved portion of the resolution were made by the reference committee. The Committee supported the need to include substance use disorders as part of the long-term strategy of organized medicine to eliminate discrimination that occurs within health insurance. The wording was changed in order to accommodate the possibility that mental health parity including substance use disorder may occur together, or may need to be achieved incrementally.
