On behalf of:
Committee: C (Internal Affairs and Public Service) [Pre-2014]
Resolved Section(s):
RESOLVED: That MSMS, in the interest of fairness as well as reasonableness of requirements, change its bylaws to provide for allowing the change to “Life” membership status after 30 years of medical practice or having attained the age of 65 years, whichever occurs first.RATIONALE: The Committee testimony was unanimously opposed to changing the current Life Membership qualifications due to the fiscal information provided to the Committee by MSMS staff. The estimated loss in revenue would be approximately $300,000 in the first year. The Committee did acknowledge that MSMS keeps members connected and engaged through its publications, and has existing bylaws that exempt qualified retired members from paying dues.
