RESOLVED: That MSMS urge the Michigan Board of Medicine and, if necessary, seek legislative modification to eliminate high malpractice awards as an automatic criteria for review and possible sanctioning and ensure the timely adjudication of Board of Medicine action in dealing with Michigan physicians.RATIONALE: The Committee wanted additional information regarding the number of cases that are reviewed by the Board of Medicine resulting from liability awards to determine if sanctions are more or less likely than allegations arising from other sources.
