RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask the AMA to organize a national reporting agency to report medical mistakes in a non-punitive, confidential, and anonymous manner to provide educational opportunities for physicians in both training and practice.REFERENCE COMMITTEE RATIONALE: AMA Policy 355.981 Guidelines for a Reporting Registry for Medical Incidents already embodies all of the elements contained in Resolution 34-09A. Therefore, the AMA already has policy to work toward a national entity to report medical errors in a non-punitive and confidential manner. The Committee concluded that the existing policy is sufficient and therefore this resolution is not necessary.
