Author(s): Annette Mercatante, MD
Sponsor: Annette Mercatante, MD
On behalf of: St. Clair County Delegation
Committee: B (Legislation)
Resolved Section(s):
RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the AMA ask our AMA to work with the federal government and the Internal Revenue Service to evolve tax codes or structures to provide deductions to the charity care provided in the United States of America similar to the charity care provided by U.S. medical professionals abroad.RATIONALE: This is consistent with previous positions taken by MSMS related to treating the costs associated with providing charity care more favorably under the tax code. This resolution asks the AMA to address this matter at the federal level. The Committee hopes that a more favorable treatment under the tax code will stimulate physicians to volunteer even more frequently than they do currently.
