RESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the American Medical Association (AMA) ask our AMA to actively lobby for federal and state legislation aimed at eliminating the national crack and powder cocaine sentencing disparity (from 18:1 to 1:1) and apply it retroactively to those already convicted or sentenced; and be it furtherRESOLVED: That the Michigan Delegation to the American Medical Association (AMA) ask our AMA to collaborate with appropriate stakeholders, including, but not limited to, courts, government agencies, professional organizations, and criminal/social justice organizations to advocate for addressing excessive legal punishments for low-level, nonviolent drug crimes at state and federal levels.
