African American, Hispanic, and rural women in the United States face significantly higher risks of complications and death during pregnancy and childbirth. To learn what it takes to provide maternal health best practices, the MIRACLE Center, a collaboration between Michigan State University, Henry Ford Health, and Corewell Health, have launched an annual survey.
Organizations that serve pregnant and/or postpartum mothers in Berrien, Calhoun, Ingham, Isabella, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Macomb, Muskegon, Oakland, Saginaw, Washtenaw, or Wayne County are encouraged to participate. The MIRACLE Center is dedicated to reducing these disparities and promoting better health outcomes for all mothers.
The MIRACLE Center's approach emphasizes innovative and culturally relevant research and practices. They aim to achieve this by collaborating with healthcare providers, community organizations, and families with personal experience.
The primary goal of the MIRACLE Center is to find ways to scale up existing best practices known to improve maternal health outcomes. This will be achieved through an implementation trial of community-based "maternal safety bundles" and the annual survey. These bundles are collections of evidence-based practices designed to standardize care and reduce preventable complications.
