Primus non nocere. As the excitement of Match Day concludes and Doctors Day approaches, MSMS President, Mark C. Komorowski, MD, shares a message with historical relevance, optimism and gratitude.
Doctor Komorowski takes us on a long journey from 2,700 BC medicine, arriving at present day, Doctor's Day. We hope this encourages you, inspires you, motivates you. He asks physicians to further explore their physician lineage, and encourage medical students and residents to do the same. “We can not expect the public to know who we are. If we do not know where we came from. Medice cura te ipsum physician, heal thyself.”

In an effort to further celebrate and honor the medical profession, the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) collaborated with Senator Kevin Hertel, Chair of the Health Policy Committee, to introduce Senate Resolution No. 22, recognizing March 30, 2025, as Doctors' Day in Michigan. This resolution honors physicians' dedication, expertise, and compassionate care, acknowledging their essential role in maintaining and enhancing the health and well-being of individuals and communities across the state.
Physicians often make significant personal sacrifices to provide quality care to their patients. They work long hours, including nights and weekends, frequently placing their professional responsibilities above personal commitments. Their unwavering commitment ensures that patients receive timely and effective medical attention, contributing to the overall health and stability of Michigan's healthcare system.
