Coalition Protecting Auto No-Fault announces ‘Shop Your Policy’ week

The Coalition Protecting Auto No-Fault (CPAN) announced it is planning a “Shop Your Policy” week to help people save money on their auto insurance.

The event runs from May 14-18 and will be promoted in a variety of ways to reach drivers across the state of Michigan.

Shop Your Policy is a week dedicated to helping drivers understand that spending a small amount of time shopping around for a better policy can result in significant savings.

“If you want to save money, shop around!” said John Cornack, CPAN President. “Most people find a better rate in under an hour of research. People need to understand that there is little regulation in Michigan regarding how insurance companies set their insurance rates.”

“By shopping your policy, you will see how different insurance companies charge significantly different rates for the same type of insurance coverage,” Cornack continued. “It is unfortunate that this practice is allowed to happen here in Michigan. However, by shopping your policy now, you can ensure that you and your family get the best deal possible on auto insurance. And it’s the law -- all Michigan drivers are required by law to have auto insurance coverage on their vehicle.”

“While we continue to work to tackle Michigan’s astronomical insurance rates without reducing quality coverage, drivers should still take advantage of the options available to them to help save money,” said House Democratic Floor Leader Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills). “One of the easiest ways to do that is through price comparison and the SHOP YOUR POLICY campaign provides the tools to make it easier. As we continue the fight to lower rates, a small amount of research can make an incredible difference in the cost, freeing up more money for the things that matter to families across the state.”

CPAN also stresses the importance of purchasing proper coverage but notes that many drivers don’t know where to find this information. Shop Your Policy will provide drivers with resources to help make informed decisions about their auto insurance coverage.
