Celebrate Henry Ford Quality Expo

For nearly 25 years, the Henry Ford Health System Quality Expo has celebrated and showcased work done by their employees to improve quality, safety and performance as well as to advance new clinical innovations and best practices.

This year's Expo theme was "Delivering Value: Enhancing patient lives through safe, patient-centered and affordable care."

"Our tradition of hosting the Quality Expo evolves just as healthcare evolves," says Michelle Schreiber, M.D., chief quality officer for Henry Ford. "Our focus this year on value-based care will demonstrate the work that all team members have undertaken to build a better system with better health, better care and better costs for everyone."

The November 1-2 event began with a Storyboard competition showcasing 24 of the most significant projects submitted and culminated with a tour of the storyboard exhibits and an address by guest lecturer Patrick Conway, MD, MSc, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Acting Principal Deputy Administrator and Deputy Administrator for Innovation and Quality of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The event featured 122 projects, with six receiving recognition awards including an Equity Award for projects that work to identify and address disparities in health care.

The six competition categories followed the Institute of Medicine (IOM) principles of best care and are as follows:

  1. Safe - Projects that enhance the safety and quality of care of patients and/or employees.
  2. Timely - Projects that improve the accessibility and timelines of care.
  3. Efficient - Projects that demonstrate improved quality or safety efficiencies to workflows, processes, or operations, or that reduce cost and improve value.
  4. Effective: Projects that demonstrate evidence-based care following national guidelines.
  5. Equitable - Projects that work to identify and address disparities in health care.
  6. Patient-Centered Care - Projects that lead to improvements in patient satisfaction, patient engagement, improved patient access or growth of patient services.

Congratulations to all of the participating teams for their dedication to improving patient quality and safety and, in particular, the six winning teams!
