Diabetes Prevention Session at MSMS House of Delegates

A free one-hour educational session on diabetes prevention will be presented at the annual MSMS House of Delegates meeting on Saturday, April 30, at 4:00 p.m. at The Henry in Dearborn. The session, open to all MSMS members, will highlight joint efforts between MSMS and the American Medical Association in controlling the rapid increase in diabetes nationwide.

Another House of Delegates event open to MSMS members is an AMA Town Hall meeting at 3:00 p.m. with Patrice Harris, MD, Vice Chair of the AMA Board of Trustees. She will highlight AMA activities in advocacy and education.

A number of MSMS members will be recognized during the annual Awards Ceremony beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the House of Delegates. Members of the "Flint Water Crisis Team" will be presented with MSMS Public Health Leadership Awards. They include Genesee County Medical Society members Lawrence Reynolds, MD; Mona Hanna-Attisha, MD, MPH; Gerald Natzke, DO; Laura Carravallah, MD; and county society executive Peter Levine, MPH. National President Awards will go to Wayne County physician Basim Dubaybo, MD, president of the National Arab American Medical Association and to Saginaw County physician James Hines, MD, president of the Christian Medical and Dental Associations. The Plessner Award, recognizing a physician who "exemplifies the practice and ethics of a rural country practitioner" will be presented to Fred Van Alstine, MD, from Owosso.
