Contrasting his proposal this week to expand Medicaid, the governor’s FY 2014 budget also included a 7% cut to graduate medical education (GME) funding, a move that will make it even harder to keep physicians in Michigan and avoid the impending shortage. MSMS will work with key lawmakers to fight the proposed cut and ensure that GME funding is appropriately maintained.
Now that the House has elected its leaders and heard preliminary updates from state departments, committee work can begin on new legislation. MSMS will continue to monitor the progress of legislation such as the state Medicaid budget, nurse scope of practice, Blue Cross mutualization, and more.
