Metro Detroit Physician Leader Betty Chu, MD, elected President-elect of Michigan State Medical Society

Betty Chu, MD, MBA, the Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, was elected president-elect of the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) during the 152nd annual meeting of the MSMS House of Delegates on May 6 in Grand Rapids.

Doctor Chu, a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School, will serve a one-year term as president-elect until she assumes the presidency of MSMS in May 2018.

Doctor Chu, who completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology, leads the medical staff at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, providing leadership to assure safe, high quality and efficient delivery of care. As a member of the executive leadership team, her responsibilities include corporate strategy design and implementation for clinical operations. She practices clinically as a member of the Henry Ford Medical Group.

Doctor Chu was named to Crain's Detroit Business's "40 Under 40" in 2010 in part for her commitment to improving communication between physicians, and was credited with simplifying access to clinical and administrative data on her hospital's website.

She is a member of the Board of Directors for Walsh College of Business, Area Agency on Aging 1B and the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce.
