Economic Impact of Healthcare

Health care providers invest in their local communities in ways beyond helping restore and support good health. Health care provided nearly 588,000 direct jobs in Michigan in 2015, nearly 228,000 by hospitals alone.

This report demonstrates the substantial role health care plays in the well-being of both the state's residents and its economy and is compiled by the Partnership for Michigan's Health, which consists of the Michigan State Medical Society, the Michigan Health & Hospital Association and the Michigan Osteopathic Association. The report uses data from fiscal year 2015, the most recent data available.

The report's dashboard provides statewide data and breaks it down by region and county. This interactive tool allows information to be viewed and printed for one county or region and for any chosen combination of counties or regions.

The data demonstrates that health care is Michigan's largest creator of direct, private-sector jobs -- jobs that continue to provide employment opportunities for residents statewide.
