Congress Stops Medicare Cut, Passes First Increase Since 2010

In late December 2013, Congress adopted a 0.5% update to Medicare physician reimbursement for three months, following a bipartisan vote of 64-36 in the Senate.

The payment increase staves off a 24% cut required by the failed SGR formula, and buys three months for Congress to complete its work on SGR repeal legislation without further disruption to the Medicare program. It is the first positive update since 2010.

MSMS continues to work with the AMA toward SGR repeal and a permanent fix.
