Physician burnout and burden, often fueled by excessive documentation, administrative tasks, and inefficient systems, can lead to decreased job satisfaction, reduced quality of life, and higher turnover rates. In response to the growing challenge of clinician burnout, the HIMSS Clinician Burden Reduction Task Force was established in 2023 to support those on the front lines of patient care. HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) is a global nonprofit organization that leads efforts to optimize health outcomes through information and technology.

Comprised of physicians, nurses, and healthcare leaders, the task force brings together a diverse group of HIMSS members dedicated to developing practical, collaborative solutions. Physician burnout, often driven by administrative overload, inefficient workflows, and documentation demands, can impact both provider well-being and patient outcomes. This toolkit aims help reduce that burden by offering actionable strategies and customizable tools. Whether you are just beginning to assess clinician burnout or ready to implement targeted strategies like inbox management or data automation, this toolkit provides a flexible framework to guide meaningful change.
