Saginaw Surgeon Thomas J. Veverka, MD, FACS, Becomes President of Michigan State Medical Society

The Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) formally welcomes Thomas J. Veverka, MD, FACS (Saginaw, MI), a general surgeon specializing in trauma care, as the new President of MSMS. Doctor Veverka was installed president during the 157th annual meeting of the MSMS House of Delegates in Kalamazoo, MI on April 30th

Doctor Veverka is board certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care, as well as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School.   

“I’m honored to take the torch on leading an organization that’s done so much for Michigan’s physicians and the patients they serve,” Doctor Veverka said. “The Michigan State Medical Society has always done a tremendous job of providing physicians with the kind of resources and advocacy they need to best leverage their ability to make real, positive differences in both their communities and in the lives of their patients, and I couldn’t be more excited about carrying that good work forward.”   

Doctor Veverka has served in several physician leadership roles over the years at hospitals in both Saginaw and Midland, as well as on the Steering Committee for the General Surgery Residency, and as the Michigan State University surgical coordinator for medical students. He belongs to the Michigan Committee of Trauma and serves as a trauma site reviewer for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Doctor Veverka holds clinical faculty appointments with both Michigan State University and Central Michigan University medical schools. Additionally, he serves on the board of the Michigan Health Improvement Alliance and is a past president of the Saginaw County Medical Society.

The Michigan State Medical Society is the statewide professional association operating as the voice of all physicians in Michigan and is affiliated with the American Medical Association. Physician policies on various issues involving public health, health care delivery and medical ethics are set at the annual MSMS House of Delegates meeting.
