Long-time MSMS member, David Best, DO, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Doctor Best, age 53, of Williamsburg, studied at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Des Moines University, where he received his Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine. Doctor Best was board-certified in family medicine and addiction medicine. He spent his career improving the health of underserved populations and supporting individuals struggling with addiction in Northern Michigan. Together with his wife, Lindsay, he co-founded and independently operated Best Medical Services in Traverse City. Beyond his private practice, he worked with Catholic Charities and various hospice organizations, where he provided compassionate, patient-centered care.
A true advocate for both his patients and his profession, Doctor Best’s leadership and dedication extended across numerous medical boards over the past 17 years. He served as president of the Michigan Osteopathic Association from 2021-2022, and as president of the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians from 2013-2014. Additionally, he led the Northern Michigan Osteopathic Association as president from 2015-2017. In 2022, he continued to impact the medical community by serving on the boards of the Novello Physicians Organization and the Des Moines University Alumni Association.
Doctor Best leaves a legacy of commitment to the well-being of his patients, leadership in osteopathic medicine, and a dedication to improving the lives of those in underserved communities in Northern Michigan.
