Medical students are vital to the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) and the future of healthcare in Michigan. Over the past few years, MSMS has worked alongside students and practicing physicians to streamline the student membership process.
“I have been an active member of the Michigan State Medical Society Medical Student Section through all four years of medical school. I’ve appreciated the ability to engage with peers and physicians from around the state and learn about organized medicine and advocacy work. I’ve helped write and defend resolutions at the MSMS House of Delegates and have found it to be an incredibly rewarding and educational experience,” said Vivienne Acuna, 4th Year student at MSU College of Human Medicine, MSMS Medical Student Governing Council.
As of May 3, 2025, the MSMS House of Delegates voted to update student dues from a four-year renewal at $300 annually, plus county medical society dues to a more affordable annual renewal of $30, plus corresponding county medical society dues.
“This change is designed to bring young physicians back into MSMS and the county medical societies, fostering membership growth from the ground up, starting with our medical students,” said Tom George, MD, MSMS, Chief Executive Officer.
MSMS remains dedicated to supporting physicians throughout their careers, including during the demanding years of medical school. Student membership offers an introduction to organized medicine and the important work of MSMS.
