MSMS HOD Final Action on Policies and Directives

On May 3, 2025, the Michigan State Medical Society House of Delegates (HOD) finalized action on resolutions discussed during the previous two weeks by five reference committees and the Ways and Means Committee. A total of 50 resolutions and five Board Action Reports were addressed. Of those resolutions, 15 were approved, 16 approved as amended, 11 disapproved, six referred to the MSMS Board of Directors, and two reaffirmed.

Some resolution highlights include:

09-25

Advocating for policy reforms that eliminate mandatory disclosures of physician mental health diagnoses while ensuring the availability of confidential, non-punitive health programs that allow physicians to seek care without fear of professional repercussions.

Directing advocacy in support of Medicaid payment for all medical services at a minimum of 100 percent of the geographically-adjusted Medicare Physician Fee Schedule rate.

Advocating to simplify and reduce the quantity of total CME and mandatory training areas for physician licensure.

Adopting policy supporting the extension of Medicaid coverage to 12 months postpartum to individuals who are eligible to enroll during their pregnancy.

Supporting access to evidence-based non-pharmacological pain management treatments through reimbursement and coverage and cost-sharing parity with primary care visits.

Supporting the statewide expansion of post suicide support programs and training to ensure all Michigan counties have access to trained crisis support personnel to assist families and communities in the aftermath of suicide.

Directing MSMS to study the structures and business models of other state medical societies in order to improve our own efficiency and productivity.
