MSMS Foundation Allocates $50,000 for Practices

Thursday, June 11, 2020

The MSMS Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization of MSMS. Its purpose is to advance the field of health for the public good and is the umbrella organization for the MSMS Center for Physician Education and Leadership. Its mission is to:

  • support public or professional education, research programs, and projects in the field of health;
  • encourage the advancement of healthy lifestyles and the prevention, diagnosis or cure of disease;
  • provide support for physicians who suffer impairment and provide a resource for the management and distribution of signature funds or bequests designated for special purposes.

Philanthropy will focus on supporting projects and activities that are meaningful to the medical profession including developing future physicians and physician leadership and the practice of medicine.

With this in mind, the MSMS Foundation allocated $50,000 for grant requests from MSMS members to assist with expenditures incurred due to COVID-19.

Priorities will be given to requests that are in areas which are considered gaps from other available resources. Examples may include:  wellness activities like trauma counseling, expenses to volunteer, patient technology such as loanable phones or tablets to allow practices to provide telehealth, license fees for telemedicine vendors, and PPE. The Foundation would encourage physicians to submit creative ways that could help address needs and sustain practices.

The grant cycle is open until July 10, 2020. Applications may be submitted until July 10, 2020, and will be reviewed by the MSMS Foundation Board on a first come first serve basis.

“Many of our colleagues could use financial assistance to continue to provide care for their patients. The MSMS Foundation wants to express it appreciation for the tireless work of physicians by providing funding support when they need it the most. Thank you MSMS members,” Cheryl Gibson Fountain, MD, MSMS Foundation President
