Monkeypox Virus Infection in the United States

Since May 14, clusters of monkeypox cases, have been reported in several countries. Monkeypox is a zoonotic infection endemic to several Central and West African countries. Before May 2022, cases outside of Africa were reported among people with recent travel to Nigeria or contact with a person with a confirmed monkeypox virus infection. CDC is urging physicians and other providers in the U.S. to be alert for patients who have rash illnesses consistent with monkeypox, regardless of whether they have travel or specific risk factors for monkeypox.
