The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many challenges to the medical field, including a drop in vaccination rates. According to the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR), data published in a recent Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), indicates that vaccination rates in Michigan plummeted after COVID-19 was declared a national emergency and the number of vaccine doses administered and reported decreased by about 20% in children ≤18 years. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) urges providers to maintain or reinitiate immunization services to protect communities from vaccine-preventable diseases. Providers are also encouraged to use MCIR to generate recall letters to identify patients who are overdue for vaccines. Now is the time to catch your patients up on their vaccines!
