In January, the Monday Night Medicine program will cover implicit bias training. On January 30, 2023, 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Alyssa Hadley Dunn, Ph.D., will provide a dynamic and interactive presentation. This session offers participants a general introduction to key concepts of equity in healthcare, including implicit bias and intercultural communication.  

 

Doctor Dunn is an Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction and the Director of Teacher Education at the University of Connecticut. Before moving to UConn last month, she served as an associate professor of education at Michigan State University for nine years and, before that, was an assistant professor of urban education at Georgia State University. Doctor Dunn focuses her teaching, research, and service on education for social and racial justice. In addition to research and teaching, she also works as a facilitator for equity dialogues and trainings around the U.S., including with medical practices and hospitals to better support healthcare professionals working with diverse patients and families. She has written three award-winning books and dozens of journal articles, including, most recently, the book Teaching on Days After: Educating for Equity in the Wake of Injustice (Teachers College Press, December 2021). A committed public scholar, she has been a contributor to the Huffington Post and National Public Radio. Among other awards, most recently, Doctor Dunn is the winner of the Critical Educators for Social Justice Revolutionary Mentor Award from the American Educational Research Association and Michigan State University’s Teacher-Scholar of the Year Award.
