African American, Hispanic, and rural women in the United States face significantly higher risks of complications and death during pregnancy and childbirth. To address this critical issue, a new research center has been launched through a collaboration between Michigan State University, Henry Ford Health, and Corewell Health. The Maternal Health Research Center of Excellence (MIRACLE Center) is dedicated to reducing these disparities and promoting health equity for all mothers.
The MIRACLE Center’s primary goal is to find ways to scale up existing best practices known to improve maternal health outcomes. This will be achieved through an implementation trial of community-based “maternal safety bundles.” These bundles are collections of evidence-based practices designed to standardize care and reduce preventable complications. The MIRACLE Center’s approach emphasizes innovative and culturally relevant research and practices. They aim to achieve this by collaborating with healthcare providers, community organizations, and families with personal experience navigating the healthcare system.
There are several ways that organizations and individuals can support and be involved with the MIRACLE Center’s initiatives:
- Help develop and implement maternal safety bundles
- Provide feedback on your organization’s capabilities
- Learn from others and share strategies
- Benefit from technical assistance
