S. Bobby Mukkamala, MD, a Flint otolaryngologist, was voted president-elect of the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) during the 154th annual meeting of the MSMS House of Delegates annual meeting May 4th and 5th in Kalamazoo.
Doctor Mukkamala, a board-certified otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon who earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, is past chair of the board of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. He is also chair emeritus of the Crim Fitness Foundation. He and his wife, Nita Kulkarni, MD, have been instrumental in the revitalization of the downtown Flint area that is their home.
He recently completed three years of leadership service as the chair of the MSMS Board of Directors, which sets policies and oversees operations for the medical society headquartered in East Lansing. Mukkamala was also elected by his peers nationally to serve on the American Medical Association Board of Trustees, and is a past recipient of the AMA’s “Excellence in Medicine” Leadership Award.
The Michigan State Medical Society is the statewide professional association of 15,000 physicians in Michigan and is affiliated with the American Medical Association. Physician policies on various issues involving public health, health care delivery and medical ethics are set at the annual MSMS House of Delegates meeting.
