Gov. Snyder Forms Prescription Drug Diversion Task Force

Friday, June 19, 2015

Every day, 44 people in the United States die after overdosing of prescription painkillers, making prescription drug abuse a major concern across the United States and here at home in Michigan. On June 18, 2015, Governor Rick Snyder announced the formation of a multi-disciplinary task force to address prescription drug diversion and examine ways we can reduce abuse -- and save lives -- across the state.

In forming the task force, Governor Snyder has demonstrated a keen understanding of the problems associated with prescription drug abuse, from the effect it has on abusers, the damage it does to families and communities, and the hidden health care and taxpayer costs associated with treating those who abuse, become addicted, or overdose.

The Michigan State Medical Society applauds the Governor for leading on such a critical issue.
