Make Patients Aware of Discounted Prescription Drugs

As the cost of prescription drugs continues to rise for Michigan citizens, many retailers have started offering popular medications, including antibiotics, pre-natal vitamins and over-the counter drugs at reduced costs. In some instances, customers may purchase one-month supplies of certain generic prescriptions for approximately $5, and three-month supplies for approximately $10. Per House of Delegates Resolution #35-08A, MSMS recognizes the retailers that have made medications available at nominal cost or for free, and provides this handy list to share with patients.  (The Michigan Department of Community Health and Health Plan Management Services have provided some assistance in compiling this list, which should not be considered definitive.  Note that independent pharmacists may offer similar pricing, so please check with your local pharmacists for further information.)

The following retailers are among those that provide medication at free or reduced costs:

Atlas Pharmacy - Offers $4 generic prescriptions, with over 300 generics available.

K-Mart - Three programs are available through their Generic Prescription Program: $5 prescriptions, 90-day generics and women’s health prescriptions (prenatal care, oral contraceptives, breast cancer prescriptions, etc.).
