Medicare Cut Gets Halted: Fight forSGR Repeal Continues | |  Although on March 1 Congressional inaction slashed Medicare payment rates to US physicians by 21.2 percent, on March 2 the Senate enacted a Band-Aid fix to temporarily reverse the cut and postpone it until March 31. Until the SGR is permanently repealed, however, physicians and their patients will remain trapped in a cycle of progressively steeper cuts being threatened and reversed, a cycle that has lasted for more than 10 years.
