Health Care, Medicaid Glaringly Absent from
State of the State Address
ImageFocusing on Michigan’s jobs outlook in the State of the State address, the governor did not mention health care reforms, or Medicaid funding, as she outlined her priorities for the coming year. With Medicaid rolls expected to increase at a cost of more than $200 million in the next year and Michigan’s unemployment percentage leading the nation, it is more important than ever to maintain access to health care for Michigan’s most vulnerable citizens.

MSMS has posted a link to the AMA/National Disaster Life Support Education Consortium's new registry to coordinate the deployment of volunteer physicians to Haiti. Also, MSMS has posted several other links to aid agencies that are accepting donations for Haiti Earthquake Disaster Relief. MSMS will continue to update physicians on opportunities to help.

Michigan Doctors' PAC is the non-partisan political action committee of Michigan physicians. Its goal is to ensure that Michigan physicians have access to their lawmakers and that the rights of the physician-patient relationship are protected in the legislative process.

The Annual Scientific Meeting Planning Committee encourages members to submit a course proposal for the 2010 ASM. Physicians, county societies, specialty societies, physician groups, and others may submit course proposals for the upcoming ASM no later than March 31.
