Payers use “bundling” edits to disallow multiple codes that are considered components or not payable on the same day. Understanding how the bundling edits are applied and when it is appropriate to use modifi ers to bypass edits is vital to correct reimbursement and compliant billing. This course will outline the correct use of modifi ers according to CPT and Medicare guidelines and provide in depth review of the global surgery guidelines used by both. Presented by LuAnn Jenkins, CPC, CEMC, CFPC, the course objectives are to: Learn when it is appropriate to “unbundle” multiple procedures or global period with modifiers; Understand the multiple surgery payment rules How to use other commercial bundling edit programs Provide resources and tools to assist in surgical billing
